Look out for shells, and loose bones, teeth, or bone fragments within the shingle. Occasionally you should come across large lumps of the bone bed though they are usually quite small. During our 2002 trip, little was found at Aust on the day, but several lumps of the bone bed were taken back to base. Since then, carefully splitting down of these rocks have had some surprising finds. A small leg bone, 32 small teeth, a sharks tooth, small vertebrae and fish spine have all been found. The bed is EXTREMLY fossiliferious, so take back as many lumps as you can see (and carry), search high and low for them as well.

Other finds that can be made are scales, fossilised clams, oysters and coprolites (these are quite common). Bones from Ichthyosaur and Pleisiosaur are less common but often found.
During rhe past, this site has yielded so many superb finds that a thick book full of the fossils from this site can now be purchased. For further information on this book, see the 'What to read' section.
