Plesiosaur vertebra at Aust

Easter 2005: Found by Colin

On Good Friday, just north of the bridge buttress, I found a fab plesiosaur vertebra just sitting on a bank of bits of red marl crumbled from the cliff above. Slightly water-worn but otherwise complete - the only preparation I needed to do was a quick scrub with a old toothbrush in warm water. It measures 60mm x 45mm and judging by the (younger) Jurassic specimens on display in the Oxford Museum it might have come from a beast 4-5m in total length. This is the first thing I've picked up at Aust that I didn't need a hand lens to appreciate!

Jan 2004 - Decent Finds from Aust - Posted by Ron

I took my son to Aust today, and after several hours of searching along the foreshore (and getting sore knees!), we decided to go back home. However, just before we left, my son picked up a fantastic fish jaw and three sharks teeth all together.
